Ekadashi 2014 – Ekadashi 2014 dates and timings are provided above for the reference of those who wish to keep a viratham (fast) on Ekadashi days. As per Hindu calendar, Ekadashi is the 11th day after the full moon and the 11th day after the new moon. It is considered as one of the most important fasts in the Hindu lunar calendar. ‘Ekadashi’ is a Sanskrit word which means eleven. As per Hindu calendar, there are two Ekadashis falling every month, namely Shukla Paksha or Gaura Paksha (period of brightening moon) and Krishna Paksha (dark lunar fortnight).

Ekadeshi is the word derived from sanskrit. In sanskrit, ‘Ekadeshi’ means eleven. According to Hindu lunar calendar, eleventh day in each of the two lunar phase is called ‘Ekadeshi’. Ekadeshi which comes in the bright phase (after new moon day or amavasai) of lunar phase is ‘Sukhla Paksha Ekadeshi’. Ekadeshi which comes in the dark phase (after full moon day or pournami) of lunar phase is ‘Krishna Paksha Ekadeshi’.
